This bill is utterly horrible, and let's also keep in mind that State child welfare agencies and courts can and have taken kids away from parents for just this reason without any help from their state legislatures. It is a problem at every level.
It has even happened in red states, because lefties and their nonsense tend to dominate social services agencies and family court systems everywhere. Here are some examples that managed to make the news despite the center-left media never reporting on it:
These Indiana parents had custody of their child taken by social services for declining to use demanded pronouns:
Montana parents had custody of their 14-year-old taken because they knew from past experience that her dramatic claims of suicidality were an attempt at emotional blackmail to get what she wanted, in this case to take puberty blockers and testosterone:
California - mom Abigail Martinez had her daughter Yaeli taken in 2016 at age 16 for not green lighting medical transition. Yaeli committed suicide at age 19 while on testosterone and separated from her mom:
The most alarming aspect of this horrific charade is the Democrat lawmakers rejection of parent groups as stakeholders because they classify them as "hate groups". So despite parents being the primary target of this legislation, their testimony is deemed invalid.
People who are trying to dominate others always come up with some noble-seeming excuses for what they do, lest they alienate too many people. They cannot very well say, "Sure, gender-critical parents love their kids too, but screw 'em anyway."
It IS odd, though, that a relative minority has been able to wield so much power; these gender treatments don't poll very well, and the activists know it. But then the US system frequently allows minority rule, as the Electoral College has demonstrated two times in the last 25 years.
I'm going to take what Hughes said and add something of my own. Sure, it is difficult to be different; anyone who grew up gay knows that. I felt different all of the time...until I came of age and found my tribe. However, what would have happened if I had changed myself so that I had no tribe? Some of these gender treatments are pretty radical, and I could easily have made myself a tribe of one.
Corinna Cohn speaks about this; he's altered himself so thoroughly that romantic attachments are difficult to say the least. I'm not saying adults can't do what they want, but we all need to understand the consequences and not kid ourselves that these treatments do more than change appearances.
(Before anyone starts, Cohn employs he/him pronouns as he was born male, and that's what I am going with. I have no interest in debating this.)
P.S. Great testimony, BTW. You should make a mashup of these and stick it on YouTube, where it would no doubt garner TONS of views.
Indeed: "If Polis signs the bill, Colorado will enshrine into law the notion that protecting a child from irreversible and unnecessary medical treatments constitutes abuse. This is precisely the opposite of the truth. Kids with gender dysphoria—and the parents who refuse to lie to them—deserve better."
The "trans agenda" is bat sh*t crazy, and doesn't give a crud about children. In fact, it IS about abusing children by NOT affirming their born sex.
The "protective parents" are the ones doing exactly that. Trying to protect their children from the "gender bender" abuse cult.
Good counseling, support groups for children and their families etc., should be what is encouraged to help "gender confused," or "gender dysphoric" children."
That's what Zucker did for 40 years, before the TRA's tried to ruin him.
We already knew what helps these children.
Don't know how long people will keep believing this cult bs.
I have absolutely no patience with it. I don't think anyone should.
(Yeah, I know almost everyone on here, basically, already stated that.
Not sure if someone mentioned this or the article above did (just skimmed this moment) but there's a petition anyone can sign who disagrees with the bill, not just those in Colorado, from courage coalition:
Yes, Lauren. I often sign these petitions simply because I believe in what they're saying, but I'm under no illusion that my sig has any weight if I'm not a constituent of those politicians. I live in Maryland, not Colorado, so nobody in Colorado gives a shit what I think, and understandably so.
I'll have this battle on my hands in Maryland soon enough anyway, as the state legislature will take up similar bills next session. As I've told all my reps -- state, fed, and local -- though I am a registered Democrat I will withhold my vote entirely if any of them go along with this trans nonsense.
Not even California is this radical, or to be more specific their governor isn't. Their legislature passed a similar bill to this, but Newsom vetoed it:
California is STILL not protecting women and girls in sports.
Assembly Bill 89 (AB 89), which aimed to ban transgender athletes from girls' interscholastic sports teams, FAILED TO ADVANCE from committee this month. All Democrats voted against it.
If you live in the wrong states habitually, yes, you may need to move every freakin’ day… unless custody of your children doesn’t matter to you. Do you think this is the only “stupid thing” Colorado has done?
Custody matters implies dissolutions of marriage generally speaking. Dissolution of marriage in Colorado almost always involves a 'geography' clause. E.g. the court order states that neither parent (when co-custody is the determination) can move from a defined area and still keep their custody rights. So e.g., the decree might state both parents agree to live in the 'Gilpin County, Golden' corridor. So you can't move to a red state post divorce and then lawyer up under the red state laws
As well, the recent "debate" on a new channel called The Disagreement, between gender ideologues and males who think they're female, Brianna Wu and Dr. Marci Bowers (formerly John and Mark, respectively) demonstrates just how ideological WPATH is.
Here's my first debunk of their woo. I've transcribed the first half in 2 posts at uteheggen.substack.com. These two go off on reveries about eunuchs in the oddest way~
Children (most of whom would grow up to be gay) can no more "consent" to have their healthy breasts and genitalia removed or take puberty blockers than they can "consent" to have sex with an adult. Similarly, parents and doctors can no more approve such permanent mutilation simply because a minor child desires it than they can approve their participation in pedophilia.
Ultimately society will see the truth and ban the practice as we have banned female genital mutilation. Do people support that practice if the parents consent? I truly hope not. It is monstrous to believe otherwise and those who do will ultimately be held to account for their actions. The obscene (now happily fired) bureaucrat Richard Levine among those in the dock.
Of course, this is contrary to science. But this is also contrary to feminist theory as it was developed for decades, since Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex. Traditional feminism made a clear distinction between biological sex and socio-psychological gender. The former was a given. The latter was malleable and could be expanded to incorporate individual freedom. Nobody argued that a tomboy was not a biological female or that she needed extensive medical intervention to behave as she wanted to behave. Trans activism has hijacked feminism and is now enforcing the most rigid and outdated gender stereotypes. I never played with Barbies as a child. Instead I watched horror movies and read SF. If I were a child today, I can easily imagine social pressure and idiotic therapists trying to convince me that I was "really" a boy and setting me on the irreversible path of lifelong medicalization.
I wonder if Polis will sign or veto. I've thought he could be an effective presidential candidate. He has been critical of the CDC and COVID. He has been fairly pro-energy. Guess we will find out soon

Protective parents matter, and they are not abusive or transphobic. https://thetranstrain.substack.com/p/protective-parents-are-not-hateful

I thought it had none.

Oh, thank goodness - he didn't sign.
I don't know about Colorado, but in Cali., there is "Our Duty", and other parents organizations that have been pushing back hard against this madness.
I'm assuming that has helped.
California is STILL not protecting women and girls in sports.

Just too sad!
Anyone living in Colorado at this stage will get what they deserve. Leave while you can!
It can happen in red states too, unfortunately.
Oh, stop it. People who don't agree with stupid things, can't go moving around every time some stupid thing happens.
We'd have to move every freakin' day.

Good to know! That’s a good reason for a married couple with children to avoid Colorado. Either could be held hostage in the state.
